Sydney Psychologist Supporting The Mental Health of Local Families

It is no secret that COVID-19 has put immense pressure on families who are not only coping with the effects of lockdown but also the stresses of home schooling. A recent Australian Bureau of Statistics report stated that around one in five people were struggling to maintain a healthy mental and physical lifestyle.

Sydney Psychologist Emma Spencer is determined to help reduce this worrying statistic and is offering free live family support to the community.

“COVID-19 has shaken up our society, our normal routines have flown out the window. As a psychologist we work in the mental health space throughout the year and watching the increase in social isolation and additional stresses we now have to burden is worrying,” says Ms. Spencer, Director of Spencer Health.

“Our family units are now facing so many more stresses and strains than ever before, and it’s important as parents to work in strategies to keep mentally healthy.”

As a result of this, Spencer Health developed and launched VitaMinds, a series of daily live streamed workshops that focuses on families. Delivering a new topic each weekday, VitaMinds creates interactive activities for children to learn and thrive during this time.

“VitaMinds provides support in the form of online storytelling, craft tutorials, mindfulness sessions and even cooking ideas. As a local business we wanted to create free support to a local, national and global community.”

“COVID-19 has affected us all and the best way we can get through this period as successfully as we can, is by working together and supporting each other.”

VitaMinds was developed by Child Development Solutions Australia, is a Paediatric Clinic situated on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.
