Occupational Therapist Leanne Healey awarded the Victorian 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Award

Leanne Healey, Founder and Director of Everyday Independence has been awarded the Medium and Large Business award in the 2020 Telstra Victorian Business Women’s Awards.

The Telstra Business Women’s Awards recognises high-achieving and ambitious women who define the direction of their business.

“I am humbled by this honour and especially pleased to able to use this opportunity to talk to the wider community about the importance of increasing participation of people living with a disability in our society,” she said.

Leanne is an exceptional Occupational Therapist with over 32 years’ experience. She is passionate about bringing a social model of disability to Allied Health and developing a team of therapists that are truly person centred and evidence based.

Leanne founded Everyday Independence in 1997. Today, she is at the helm of a dynamic allied health organisation with over 350 team members who all are working towards the goal of supporting people with disabilities to achieve their full potential and enjoy an everyday life.

As a director, Leanne leads the development of excellence in therapy provision and supporting the team to progress the organisation’s core purpose.

“Supporting people with a disability to reach their unique potential and removing barriers that limit their participation in everyday life, has a profound impact on the whole of the community,” said Leanne. “This can only be achieved with a team of like-minded people who are all working towards the same vision.”

Everyday Independence has been supporting people through the National Disability Insurance scheme (NDIS) since its inception. Leanne has been passionate about ensuring that every person Everyday Independence supports gets the best value from their funding to achieve their goals.

Leanne was surprised and delighted when she received the call that she had been awarded the award. “What was most gratifying was that the Telstra Women’s Business award representative said that aside from our tremendous impact as a business, the thing that most impressed the judges was our investment in our team’s training and development.”

The 2020 Telstra Business Women’s Award ceremony did not proceed as planned due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Winners were announced on Thursday 30 April via a national campaign across press and social media.

This year, the Telstra Business Women’s Awards celebrates 25 years of recognising the outstanding women in business
